"Youth of May" is a drama that tells the story of two young people who lived in the Gwangju Uprising that took place in May 1980.

Hwang Hee Tae is a troublemaker who hates everything that is predictable. His life is described as: "a war against prejudice". And, to break the prejudice against children raised by single mothers, he gets high marks and even enters the medical course at Seoul National University. 

He also plays the guitar and likes to go to coffee shops with music. However, due to unexpected events, he ends up experiencing the most difficult month of May of his life.

Kim Myung Hee is a hardworking nurse who left home and now lives alone in Gwangju. Although she is not friendly enough to comfort patients in her crying moments, she is smart and skilled enough to find the vein in someone's arm at first. She is more like a warrior than an angel and, contrary to her beautiful appearance, she has a cold exterior.
